AC Milan turned to former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic as they looked to add a much needed authoritative figure to be the team’s talisman.
Ibrahimovic arrived at Milan, a club with which he won the Scudetto in 2011, in January on a free transfer after signing a six-month deal.
The veteran striker has helped rejuvenate his former team, helping them steer in the direction of securing European football.
However, the Swede’s future has been called into question in past weeks. He is discontent with the performance levels of the team and even clashed with chief executive Ivan Gazidis over the way things are at the club at the present. He has hence been showing reluctance to sign a contract extension.
In an interview, set to be released on Saturday, with La Gazzetta dello Sport‘s Sportweek, he once again issued a warning to the club.
“Ibra plays to win something or he stays at home,” Ibrahimovic told.
“Ibra was born to play football and is still the best at playing football. We’ll see how I feel in two months. We’ll also see what’s happening with the club. If this is the situation, to be honest, it’s unlikely you’ll see me at Milan next season.
“Ibra is not a player for the Europa League and Milan are not a club who belong in the Europa League.”
