Zinedine Zidane impressed with Eden Hazard in his first match after a return from injury.
Real Madrid restored the two-point gap between themselves and league leaders FC Barcelona following a stunning 3-1 victory against Eibar last night.
All three of the home side’s goals came in the first half. Toni Kroos broke the deadlock just inside the first five minutes and soon after Sergio Ramos and Marcelo piled on.
Each of Los Blancos’ goal was a thing of beauty, but it was the second one which stood out the most.
The counter-attack started with Sergio Ramos intercepting an opponent’s pass before making a dazzling run goalwards. A few passes were exchanged before, Eden Hazard, who was well within shooting range, resisted the temptation of personal glory and squared the ball to his captain to tap it home.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Zinedine Zidane seemed particularly impressed by the Belgian’s unselfish play.
“We knew Hazard would probably lack a little sharpness if he played the whole game. He played for an hour, and played well. And he took a hit, which will do him good,” Zidane said, as per Sky Sports.
“He is happy with what he’s done and we’re happy with his work and that of the whole team.
“I think when Hazard laid it to Sergio, he could have scored himself too, but he’s altruistic, so he gave it to Sergio. It’s unselfish and I love to see things like that.”
