Werner looking to score his first Premier League goal against Liverpool

Werner may not have got on the scoresheet as Chelsea overcame Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium, but he was impressive all the same.

The former RB Leipzig star troubled the Brighton defense with his exceptional pace and won the penalty that led to Jorginho’s first-half opener. His performance dropped off a little after the break, though, as he didn’t enjoy as feed as in the opening half.

Not helping matters was Werner sustaining a dead leg in the match, but the German recovered to deliver a decent first display in the Premier League.

“Like everybody said to me before, Premier League football is something different,” Werner said on the club’s website on the challenges of English football after experiencing it for the first time.

“It was a tough game. Before the 1-1 in the second half we played not so good, and after it we made it better. Reece scored an amazing goal that brought us back in the game, and his corner decided the game, so we are very happy to win and hopefully we can win more games.”

The former Bundesliga man added: “I played against three massive defenders, and you don’t have something like that in Germany!

“The game is totally different. In some situations, we had a lot more space, the field is very big and you can make a lot of runs, like we did in the first half after we led 1-0.

“Then you come out of the dressing room in the second half and the game was totally different. It changed completely. Brighton did very well and gave us a lot of problems.”
