Arsene Wenger does not believe Barcelona need another striker but believes that Barcelona will buy another forward this summer
FC Barcelona added Antoine Griezmann to their ranks at the start of the season in an attempt to bolster their attacking options and lighten the goalscoring burden for the ageing Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
As formidable as the arrangement looks on paper, the front three haven’t been able to function quite efficiently yet.
The Catalans have struggled in the attacking department this season. They have heavily relied on Messi, like they have been doing for quite a few years now, to save their blushes.
Fortunately for them, Messi doesn’t disappoint. To put his contribution in perspective, he has been directly involved in almost 50 percent of Barca’s La Liga goals this season.
Barcelona reckoned even someone as great as Messi will start to decline at some point. They, therefore, are now weighing up options to replace him and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez appears to be a potential candidate.
Arsene Wenger, however, believes the Spanish giants should continue to have faith in Griezmann but feels another striker’s arrival at the club is imminent.
“Barcelona has always bought the greatest players. Personally, I’m not sure that Suarez needs to be replaced,” he told beIN SPORTS.
“I still think Griezmann at some stage will start to score goals. He doesn’t look completely adapted. Maybe now after confinement, he will be refreshed because he’s a good goalscorer as well.
“But I’m convinced they will buy another striker as well.”
