It’s been a far from happy return to the Spanish capital for James Rodriguez. The Colombian has made just 13 appearances in all competitions this season, including seven in La Liga.
Amid recurring injury problems and doubts on whether he fits into Zinedine Zidane’s tactical set-up, James is an outcast in Madrid once again. The rumour mill, therefore, is in full swing over his future.
A myriad of clubs have expressed an interest in signing the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner. For such a talented player, this comes as no surprise.
Real Madrid may even be willing to accept a cut-price deal for James, considering his contract expires next year and the financial impact of COVID-19.
Here are three clubs in which James could prosper:
Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid seemed close to signing James Rodriguez last summer. CEO Gil Marin confirmed their interest before talks unexpectedly broke down. Therefore, Atletico signed Marcos Llorente from Los Blancos instead.
According to Mundo Deportivo, though, James remains keen on a switch to Los Colchoneros. This may prompt renewed talks, considering Diego Simeone could do with more creativity from his midfield to support his attackers.

Everton
The Colombian made 51 appearances during Ancelotti’s reign in charge of Los Blancos, managing 18 goals and 19 assists. Since the 60-year-old’s departure in 2015, however, things have never been quite the same for him.
The pair reunited briefly at Bayern Munich before Ancelotti departed two months into James’ two-year loan spell. The Italian, however, remains a big fan of the player. He even confessed last summer he remains ‘very attached to him’.
Arsenal
Amid Mesut Ozil’s inconsistent displays, Arsenal may welcome the prospect of another attacking midfielder. There was even talk of a bid in January, which ultimately never materialised.
In some ways, James could be a coup for Arsenal. He’s perhaps more dynamic and involved than Ozil, also capable of scoring more goals than his German counterpart. That would be welcome for Arsenal, who’ve been a little short on goalscoring midfielders since Aaron Ramsey’s exit.
