Cristiano and Messi have been at the top of footballing world for over a decade now.
They’ve broken countless records and have been a level above from all others.
But with both of them getting older one would wonder who will take the throne.
Could it be Mbappe, who many believe to be a generational talent or Neymar, the man tipped to end the duopoly of Ronaldo and Messi or Hazard.
Only time will be answer that, but Cristiano in 2015 tipped these five players for greatness.
“You see many players with potential,” Ronaldo said. “I will mention Martin Odegaard of Madrid, for example. At 16 he’s still young but you can see he’s a very good player.
“Hazard is also another example, the number seven of Manchester United, Memphis Depay is a good player too, Paul Pogba and maybe Neymar.”
Let’s see how well these players have fared over the past few years.
MARTIN ODEGAARD
Real Madrid signed the starlet four years ago and he is still yet to break into to the first team. He has been loaned out to Heerenveen, Vitesse and is currently on loan to Real Sociedad.
He is still young at 20, still has time to realize his potential.
NEYMAR
Neymar has been said to be the guy to succeed Messi and Ronaldo at the top for a long time. But the Brazilian is yet to realise his full potential.
Injuries and also his own attitude have been the main problems. Proposed move to Barca could just be what he needs to succeed.
EDEN HAZARD
The Belgian who had an incredible season with Chelsea, finally signed for his dream club Real Madrid. Seen by Los Blancos as the successor to Ronaldo.
He has the platform to finally be at the top of the footballing world.
PAUL POGBA
The Frenchman flourished at Juventus and then signed for Utd for a record fee.
But his time at United has been a bit of mixed bag, there have been performances which really show what he his capable and some which have been downright awful.
Maybe all he needs is a change of space to finally flourish.
MEMPHIS DEPAY
United was too soon for Depay as he spent two disappointing years at the Theater of Dreams.
He then joined Lyon of a paltry £16m and even though he has been lighting up the French League, he is still very far from the heights that Ronaldo thought he might be able to.
