There have been rumors of financial turmoil at the Catalonian giants Barcelona for some time. With questions being asked as to how the apparent richest club on the plant can be broke?
Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, it was suggested that the transfer budget was in a poor state of affairs and resulted in the failed attempt to bring back prodigal son Neymar.
Since then the global pandemic has caused even more problems, that have seen players take a 70% pay cut to help the club balance the books.
Now according to ESPN, the club is making further cutbacks.
As it looks to offload up to 70 million Euros is players through sales, even asking the players to accept reduced pay into next season and reducing their scouting team by up to 50%.

The report stated:
“Vice president Jordi Cardoner told ESPN they have already lost around €140 million during this period.”
“Therefore, the club may have to ask the players to take further wage cuts next season as they will be forced to knock around €200m off their budget for the 2020-21 campaign.”
“Meanwhile, the club also remains under pressure to bring in around €70m in player sales before the end of June to balance the club’s accounts.”
“Barcelona will cut their scouting department in half as part of a major restructuring operation.”
“The department employs around 40 members of staff, with only 15 to 20 expected to survive the cull.”
