In JTBC’s new Korean drama “Welcome to Samdalri” (written by Kwon Hye Joo, directed by Cha Young Hoon), Shin Hye Sun plays Jo Eun Hye/ Jo Sam Dal, a top photographer in Seoul, who returns to Samdalri, her hometown where she was hurt by people in an incident and didn’t want to go back.
It is there, in the midst of a crowd of people, that Jo Sam Dal will find her true self and receive healing love from people again.
When she first read the script, the emotion that permeated her was warmth. “It tells me that even if I’m not a perfect person, there are people who support me and love me, and that warmth is comforting to me,” she explains.
“Yong Pil, her friends, family, and even the neighbourhood haenyeo, are all people who genuinely care about Sam Dal, even if they are bickering, and I think having people like that around her is her greatest asset, and I envy her,” she added.
So the chemistry between the sisters was important to Shin, and it’s evident from the teasers and images that have been released so far, and the secret is the warmth on set.
Shin Dong Mi and Kang Mina, who became sisters in drama, hug each other every time they meet. They say that they can communicate with each other just by looking at each other.
Shin Hye Sun is also having fun filming with her ‘Samdalri Eagle Five Brothers’ actors Lee Jae Won, Bae Myung Jin, and Kang Young Seok. It is expected that the fun that comes from the completed chemistry will also play a big part in the Kdrama.
Regarding her co-star, Ji Chang Wook, she describes him as “an actor who explains everything with his eyes.”
She explains that his eyes, which can be both flirtatious and unexpected, “show the ambiguous relationship between Yong Pil and Sam Dal, who are both born mates and ex-lovers, a relationship that you want to avoid but can’t and won’t.”
It’s in Ji Chang Wook’s natural romance DNA, which even romance queen Shin Hye Sun acknowledges.
The synergy between the two was perfect. “Yong Pil and Sam Dal have a really comfortable and uncomfortable relationship, and thanks to Ji Chang Wook’s portrayal of Yong Pil, I felt why Sam Dal shouldn’t be without him,” she adds.
Shin Hye Sun adds, “I relied on him a lot during filming because he made the parts that I didn’t expect to be funny with his hilarious chemistry.” The pair’s history together is something to look forward to.
Finally, Shin Hye Sun said, “‘Welcome to Samdalri’ is a drama that is like a shelter where you can stop and take a breath,” and expressed her love for the show, saying, “Come watch us on Saturday night, December 2 at 10:30pm.”
“When the Camellia Blooms,” “Are You Human Too?” director Cha Young Hoon and writer Kwon Hye Joo of “Go Back Couple” and “Hi Bye, Mama!” have teamed up for the first time.
“Welcome to Samdalri” will air after “Strong Girl Namsoon” finishes and will premiere on 2 December at 10:30 pm.
