The Premier League has confirmed one fresh coronavirus case from its latest round of testing.
The latest round of testing took place on June 8 and 9, with 1,213 players and club staff tested – the most extensive of the seven rounds to date.
The Premier League still plan to restart the season on June 17, when Aston Villa will host Sheffield United at Villa Park and Manchester City will take on Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
The one positive test brings to total of positive Premier League cases to 14 across the seven rounds of testing, which began on May 17 and 18.
The news comes after the Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill tested positive shortly before the Championship club were due to face Manchester United in a friendly game.
No details have emerged on the person to be found positive for the virus.
“The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June, 1,213 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19,” the League said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Of these, one has tested positive. The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.
“No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”
