There is a possibility that Serie A clubs could resume training on the 4th of May, with the league getting ready for a potential return to action.
Italy’s prime minister Giuseppe Conte yesterday extended the lock-down in the country until May 3rd and that also follows suit for all sporting events in the country.
Before that date, footballers will still not be allowed to train, explaining why May 4th has been penciled down as the likely return date for Serie A clubs to resume training, according to the country’s minister of sport, Vincenzo Spadafora.
“In the deep conviction that our athletes, able-bodied and disabled, will return to win and honour the Tricolor soon, inside and outside the competition fields.”
“I would like to warn the Federations and other subjects of the sports system so that the resumption of training and activities takes place, presumably from May 4, in the strictest compliance with the safety requirements that will be identified in agreement with the health authorities and scientific bodies,” he wrote as cited by Goal.
However, Italian publication Calciomercato added that Serie A clubs have begun to ask players who traveled abroad to return back to the country, with some of them already returning and would have to undergo another 14 days of isolation.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic are among players who traveled abroad and the report says all players are expected to return by Monday in the latest maximum date.
The report further adds that taking all of the above into consideration, a likely date for the Serie A to resume proper will be the 30th of May or the 2nd of June.
