Full-back for Chelsea Last month, Ben Chilwell tore his ACL, which ended his season. After his attempt to recall Emerson Palmieri from Lyon failed, manager Thomas Tuchel has tried a number of players at the position. However, it appears that the club is finally ready to recruit a new full-back in January.

Tuchel’s squad would benefit greatly from a potential transfer. Reece James was expected to fill in for Chilwell while the German manager was away. However, during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on December 29, the England international suffered a hamstring injury.
Lucas Digne, who joined Aston Villa on Thursday, was the club’s prime target for the role. Chelsea had reportedly been put off by the player’s £30 million price tag, and they were seeking for cheaper alternatives.
Dest is back on the bench after Dani Alves’ return to Barcelona, where he is fighting to earn enough playing time. This winter, the Spanish club may be willing to sell the player for roughly €20 million. Despite preferring to play on the right wing, Dest is capable of playing on both wings.
