Sane ruled out of Bayern’s clash against Dortmund for the Super cup final

Bayern Munich has been hit with an injury setback as Leroy Sane won’t be available for their DFL-Supercup final against Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich head into Wednesday’s DFL Supercup in need of a positive result after their shock 4-1 hammering against Hoffenheim on Sunday.

More bad news has hit the European champions, however, in the form of Sane. The former Manchester City winger has sustained a knee injury, ruling him out against Dortmund. He’s also set to be absent for Germany over the international break.

“Leroy Sane will miss out,” confirmed Bayern boss Hansi Flick in a pre-match conference. “Hopefully, he will be back after the international break. He’s got an injury in his knee.”

David Alaba, meanwhile, is also doubtful, with Flick adding: “Alaba has muscular problems, so we will have to see how that develops.”

The Bavarians head into the encounter at the Allianz Arena licking their wounds following that horror show against Hoffenheim. It ended a 32-match unbeaten run and couldn’t have come at a worse moment. Especially as the team hope to win a fifth trophy for the year.

“My team’s mentality is absolutely outstanding,” continued Flick. “Maybe one or two of them are slightly tired, but they always give 100 percent on the pitch, which was also the case in Hoffenheim.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t do some things that well that day.”

Dortmund were on the losing side themselves over the weekend upon losing 2-0 to FC Augsburg. However, Flick expects a difficult challenge nonetheless.

He added: “Dortmund have a fantastic young side and they also have experience in their ranks. They play attractive, offensive football, which I like.

“This will be a test against one of Germany’s best. This game will help to develop us.”
