Cristiano Ronaldo yet again proved to the difference between his side and the opposition in Portugal’s latest outing in the Nations League.
The forward found the back of the net twice, each strikes almost equally awe-inspiring, to help Portugal secure a comfortable 2-0 win over Sweden and consequently strengthen the hold atop the League A Group 3 table.
The Juventus star’s brace means he has now scored 101 goals for his nation, more than any other active player. Furthermore, he is now the first European player to reach three figures at the international level and only the second around the globe ever.
Unfortunately, in what was a historic night for him, no fans were present at Friends Arena in Stockholm in light of the social distancing measures being in effect due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking after the match, Ronaldo admitted that the lack of atmosphere was a concern for him as he thrives on criticism.
“There is no need to regret, when I do something I like to be whistled because it gives me chills,” the 35-year old told RTP.
“But health comes first, if the WHO says that these aren’t safe conditions, that’s it. The most important thing is the human being.
“Playing without fans is like going to the circus and not seeing clowns. It’s like going to the garden and not seeing flowers.”
