Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes has been named as the winner of Goal’s NxGn 2020 award, which is voted for by journalists from the website’s 43 decisions.
The award is specifically for players highly rated to be the next set of superstars, with the criteria for eligibility being that they must have been born on or after January 1, 2001.
Rodrygo joins the likes of Jadon Sancho, Justin Kluivert and Gianluigi Donnarumma who have also won the award in the past.
Rodrygo revealed his delight at winning the award, stating he wants to back it up with quality on the pitch.
“There is no point in winning the award, but not following up on the field,” Rodrygo told Goal upon receiving his trophy.
“I think this award motivates me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence.
“I hope that happens, that I continue this current season very well.”
