Real Madrid reclaimed their league lead after they beat RCD Mallorca 2-0 in La Liga matchday 31 on Wednesday night.
FC Barcelona have had the front foot in the title race since March but the slip-up against Sevilla on Friday allowed their bitter rivals to climb to the top of the table.
While both Zinedine Zidane’s side and Quique Setien’s side are level on points, the superior head-to-head record gives the former the edge.
Gerrard Pique earlier admitted that it would be tough for Barca to win the league since Los Blancos often benefit by referees making decisions in their favor.
But Sergio Ramos, who scored a spectacular free-kick last night, believes there are no grounds to any such conspiracy theories.
“There’s a lot of noise in the media because we’re leaders again. We don’t pay attention to this noise,” Ramos told Movistar [via ESPN].
“I don’t think they [the referees] take any predetermined decisions. It seems like we should be thanking the refs for being leaders. People shouldn’t be imagining things.
“We’ve been working hard and since the lockdown. We’ve been united, and we deserve to be where we are.”
