Ramos is now the highest scoring defender in La Liga

Real Madrid jumped atop the league table following a thrilling 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad at San Sebastian in matchday 30 of La Liga last night.

It was a penalty from captain Sergio Ramos which put the away side on the front foot shortly after the half time break.

Having scored twice in the last match, Karim Benzema then continued his goalscoring run with a brilliant finish in the final twenty minutes, a goal that evoked some controversy.

Ramos’ spot-kick marked the 68th goal in his La Liga career. His effort saw his name get etched in La Liga history books as he also became the highest-scoring defender in Spanish top-flight.

The 34-year old has found the back of the net in each of his last 16 seasons on La Liga. His best tally so far has been in the current season as well as the 2016/17 season, with seven goals in each of them. Two of his strikes came when he played for Sevilla, while the remaining 66 have all come in Real Madrid colors.

However, the match was not all rose-colored for the World Cup winner as he was forced off the field after sustaining a knee injury.
