Having Leo Messi is another dream come true for Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnian midfielder has been one of the fortunate ones who played alongside unique individuals such as Cristiano Ronaldo in Juventus or Francesco Totti in Roma.
Now he gets to play alongside the Argentine genius in this new adventure with the Catalan club, which is something he values deeply. The midfielder received the club’s number ‘8’ jersey, he was presented to the media by president Josep Maria Bartomeu. During his ceremony, he spoke about several topics but his words about Messi and the club were the highlights of the day.
“From the outside, I don’t see Messi in another club that isn’t Barcelona,” said Pjanic to Marca. “He is a massive talent. There is always heartbreak after a defeat. But this is his home. I would’ve had a rough time watching him play with another club.
“I believe he is happy and motivated. He is the best player of all time. It’s very important he is here with us. I’ve known him for a short period of time. I’ve played alongside Totti, Cristiano…
“It is important for me to have these players close by. They are very important and an example for me. Sharing a dressing room with an alien will be unique. But all the goup is very important”.
What does Barcelona mean for Pjanic?
During the presentation, Pjanic spoke about the things he remembers fondly from Barcelona as a club: “My memories are varied. The Camp Nou. Playing here has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. It’s something incredible, I remember all those Champions League titles.
“Luis Enrique is a very important figure for me, he tried to apply his style at Roma but it wasn’t easy. I think playing here is a challenge, it’s the pinnacle of any player’s career. To me, the most important thing is making the fans happy.
“This is more than a club. You also have to play great football and win trophies. We can accomplish every objective, we have experience and incredible young players”.
