FC Barcelona were held to a goalless draw against Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Friday night.
The stalemate means the league leaders, who have picked up 65 points 30 matches so far, sent an unwanted invitation to Real Madrid to level on points with them.
Real Madrid meet Real Sociedad on the coming weekend. They would still be trailing behind their bitter rivals even after managing to scoop up all three points unless they do it with at least a four-goal margin.
Gerard Pique, regardless, is aware of the delicate situation that has arisen due to their results last night and admits that the resulting consequences for them could be dire.
“I think it’s going to be very difficult to win this league,” Pique said after the match [via Marca].
“We’re going to do everything possible, but I don’t suppose [Real Madrid] are going to drop very many points. It’s no longer in our hands and it will be difficult for Real Madrid to drop points. From what we’ve seen in the last two matchdays, it will be difficult.”
“The draw leaves us in a position where [the title] doesn’t depend on us.”
