Pelé Congratulates Cristiano Ronaldo for reaching 100 international goals

Brazil legend Pelé has congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for reaching and surpassing 100 goals on the international stage for Portugal, after he netted a brace on Tuesday night.

The Juventus forward became just the second male footballer to ever reach 100 international goals when he scored a stunning free kick in the first half of Portugal’s Nations League clash with Sweden. Ronaldo grabbed his second of the game in the second period with a beautiful curled effort from the edge of the box.

The brace means that Ronaldo has managed 101 goals in just 165 caps for his country. After reaching his latest ridiculous milestone, Brazil legend Pelé was quick to congratulate the 35-year-old.

The former superstar – who himself managed 77 goals on the international stage for Brazil and is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time – revealed he was expecting Ronaldo to step up and deliver on Tuesday by finding the back of the net – and he wasn’t disappointed.

He took to his Twitter after the clash, writing: “I thought we were going to celebrate 100 goals today. But it was actually 101! Congratulations Cristiano [Ronaldo], as you reach new heights in your journey.
