Paul Pogba admits he was an Arsenal fan and idolized Henry before joining United

If players played for the team they supported as kids, Paul Pogba would have been playing in the Arsenal team.

The Frenchman started out supporting the Gunners, with his love for fellow compatriot Thierry Henry a big factor in that choice at the time.

Pogba eventually joined the Red Devils youth team in 2009, making the decision to leave his hometown in search of professional football in England.

He didn’t cut it fully in his first spell under Sir Alex Ferguson and joined Juventus on a free transfer three years later.

It would seem he was destined to play for United, with the club paying the £89 million to Juventus to bring him back to Old Trafford.

If things went another way, Arsenal would have been his destination as a youngster.

Pogba told United’s official podcast: “I will be honest. So, at the start, I was an Arsenal fan – obviously because of all the French players, you know.

“Me and my brother were but my other brother was a Manchester United fan.

“I couldn’t say anything so I used to love Henry and, because of him, I was an Arsenal fan. Then I changed and went on to choose with my other brother. No Arsenal, I went with the other one, the United fan!”
