Jose Mourinho is hopeful Eric Dier can commit to the club and sign a contract extension.
The 26-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season. Reports have already claimed the England international could be on his way out of the club.
Bar injuries, Dier has been a regular in the Spurs ranks this season and has played all minutes for his side since the Premier League restart.
Ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Sheffield, Mourinho was asked about the speculation surrounding the 26-year-old. The Portuguese manager quelled exit rumors and insisted a new-contract is already in the pipeline with the player happy at the club.
“Mr. Levy tells me that he wants Dier to sign a new contract and he also tells me he is more than happy here,” Mourinho said via BBC.
“He is more than happy with his situation, especially now that he feels that we have a certain idea for him and the team. He tells me that he wants very much to stay, so I hope they can find an agreement.
“I am trying to take the team in a certain direction and when I try to develop a player in the team, it’s because I’m waiting for the player to stay with us.”
