AC Milan have confirmed the appointment of Marco Giampaolo official. The 51-year old has left Sampdoria and signed a 2-year contract with an option to extend it to a third year.
Marco Giampaolo has been hailed as a brilliant coach with the ability to improve the players he works with. At Sampdoria, Giampaolo made Joachim Andersen, Nicola Murru and Dennis Praet regular starters, bringing the best out of exciting English U21 International Ronaldo Vieira.
Giampaolo famously brought back the 2-striker formation in the Serie A, playing Quagliarella alongside Gregoire Defrel with Gaston Ramirez playing in the hole behind the two strikers. The same could be expected at Milan, with Kryzsztof Piatek playing alongside Patrick Cutrone or Andre Silva.
This could signal the end of Suso’s time at Milan, with Lucas Paqueta the front runner to play in the hole behind the strikers. With no wingers required in this system, it is tough to see where Suso fits in. Hakan Calhanoglu has shown that in can function as a deep lying playmaker, making one of the three remaining midfield spot his own, with Kessie and Biglia filling the numbers.
Marco Giampaolo will officially start working with the AC Milan first team at the Milanello from the 9th of July.
