Harry Maguire will become the world’s most expensive defender after Leicester City have agreed to sell him for £80 million to Manchester United.
The English international who had informed Leicester that he wanted to leave them this summer.
The fee will surpass the £75 million paid by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk, previous record holder.
There are reports that Maguire will fly to Manchester for his medical on Monday.
The initial fee paid will be £60 million, with additional £20 million made up of add-ons.
Manchester City were also said to be interested in Maguire. But backed off due to the asking price of £80 million by Leicester City.
The increased offer by United coupled with Maguire’s desire to leave meant that the Foxes eventually agreed to the deal.
Previously Maguire had earlier accused Leicester of pricing him out of a move.
He will be United’s third signing following Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James from Crystal Palaca and Swansea city respectively.
Leicester bought Harry Maguire from Hull City for only £17 million in June 2017, so they are surely to gain a huge profit from the sale.
