Luka Modric has provided assurances over his Real Madrid future saying the contract negotiations are “going in the right direction.”
Modric has been a key part of the Real Madrid team ever since his arrival from Tottenham, playing a crucial role in their Champions League conquests and La Liga successes in the previous decade.
The 35-year-old, as things stand, however, will quit the club for free after this season with his contract set to expire in June.
After his Ballon d’Or win last year, an automatic 12-month extension was triggered on his current deal which was originally due to run out in the summer of 2020.
Asked about his contract situation ahead of the Supercopa de Espana semi-final, Modric replied, via Goal: “I can’t say much. I’m speaking with the club and everything is going in a good direction.
“I haven’t changed anything in particular. I’m working a lot outside of training, I have the same desire to compete, the years are no problem at all.”
