Livestream: Leeds United Vs Arsenal

Leeds United will try to bounce back from their devastating 7-0 loss to Manchester City last time out when they host Arsenal at Elland Road on Saturday. On Tuesday night, Marcelo Bielsa’s side suffered their joint-heaviest league defeat in club history, while Arsenal climbed into the top four 24 hours later with a win over West Ham United.

Given how excellent they were in their first season back in the top flight last season, many anticipated Leeds to be immune to the notorious second-season syndrome this season, but they have struggled to live up to their performances from 2020-21 so far.

Injuries to important players have played a significant part, yet they enter this weekend’s games 16th in the table, only five points above the relegation zone and having played two games more than 18th-placed Burnley. Bielsa’s players are in the midst of one of the most tough runs of fixtures in the Premier League right now, with Saturday’s game the third in a string of four games against each of the current top four.

The first saw them push Chelsea all the way before succumbing to a contentious last-gasp penalty, but the same XI was then trounced by a surging Man City in midweek, as Bielsa saw one of his sides surrender seven goals in a game for the first time in his lengthy and distinguished managerial career.

Only the bottom two have conceded more goals or have a lower goal differential than Leeds this season, having shipped 12 in their current three-game winless streak.

Things aren’t going to get any easier with games against Arsenal and Liverpool coming up either side of Christmas, but Leeds will be desperate to prove that Tuesday’s game was an anomaly, and they will be confident that another performance at the level they produced against Chelsea last weekend will be enough to get something out of the game against Arsenal.
