Arsenal will face West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, with both teams aiming for a top-four finish in the Premier League. At the weekend, Arsenal defeated Southampton 3-0, while Burnley held David Moyes’ team to a goalless draw.
For a little while, it appeared that Arsenal’s woes would continue as Southampton shone at the Emirates, but as Alexandre Lacazette’s attempt found its way into the top corner, Mikel Arteta’s side went on to dominate on home soil.
Martin Odegaard scored for the third Premier League game in a row to put Arsenal 2-0 up before halftime, and Gabriel Magalhaes added his side’s third during a comfortable victory.
With that result, Arsenal moved back over Tottenham Hotspur into sixth place, although they are only one point ahead of the Lilywhites with two games remaining.
Only two points separate Arsenal and fourth-placed West Ham ahead of this match, and with Manchester United’s match against Brentford reportedly in jeopardy, Arsenal might very well finish the midweek round in the top four.
Arsenal welcome West Ham to the Emirates as the league’s joint-best home performance this season, alongside Manchester City, having won each of their past four in all competitions without allowing a goal.
West Ham’s efforts at Burnley were in vain, as Sean Dyche’s relegation hopefuls kept the top-four chasing Hammers to a point at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon, while their London rivals were easing to another three points. For the visitors, Declan Rice came close, but the Burnley defence, led by Nick Pope and Ben Mee, stood firm to deny the Hammers’ chances of Champions League play once more, capping off a miserable week for Moyes and his team.
The Hammers had lost an insignificant Europa League match to Dinamo Zagreb before losing at Turf Moor, and they have only won one of their past five games in the Premier League, but they are still one point ahead of Man United in fourth place.
