Liverpool needs to be consistent to win titles – Gomez

Liverpool has undoubtedly been the dominant force in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.

Few would argue that they are worthy winners of the title of Champions.

However, the great debate remains are they a “great” side?

There were comparisons to the Arsenal “Invincibles,” until the loss in late February to Watford.

There were comparisons to the united sides of 1999 and 2008, but failing to progress in the Champions League put paid to those views.

Now there is the talk of the 100 point Manchester City side of 2018.

Gomez, however, is adamant that even though his side’s achievements are superb, he thinks the greatness of the team will be judged on consistency in winning titles.

Speaking to the Premier League he believes there is a long way to go.

He said: “I think consistency and striving year in, year out. Obviously, City has done it a fair few times now and they’ve set the bar for what it’s like.”

“As a group, we are trying to maintain that consistency whereby we can continue getting results and I think that’s what is so good about this year.”

“I think continuing to keep that level of desire to win and finding a way to win, while maintaining high levels of performance week in, week out is obviously what we can strive for now.”

“We are far from the finished article and we’ve got a young, hungry squad that hopefully can keep on learning.”

“It’s what we play football for and it will definitely be a year that I know we will look back on with great memories. Hopefully, we can continue to emulate that sort of success.”
