Lionel Messi posts a statement on coronavirus outbreak

Lionel Messi has become the latest footballer to voice out on the pandemic.

Ronaldo had issued a statement yesterday as footballers continue to show a united voice in the fight to curb the pandemic.

Of course, the situation has affected football all over Europe and Barcelona have had to suspend their training due to the situation.

Messi is also currently in self-isolation and has sent out a message to fans via social media.

The Barcelona captain shared the picture on his Instagram account on Saturday afternoon.

#QuedateEnCasa #StayAtHome

“These are difficult days for everyone,” Messi wrote on social media alongside a picture of himself at home with two of his children.

“We live worried about what is happening and we want to help by putting ourselves in the place of those who are having the worst time, or because it directly affects them or their family and friends.”

Regarding the health professionals currently working to find a cure, Messi sent love their way and also appealed to the public to follow their guidelines.

“I want to send a lot of strength to them, to those who are working on the front line to fight it in hospitals and health centres,” he added.

“Health always comes first.

“This is an exceptional time and we must follow the instructions of both the health organisations and the public authorities.

“This is the only way we can change it effectively.”

Finally, Messi reminded people that they should not leave their homes.

“It’s time to be responsible and stay at home, plus it’s the perfect time to be with your loved ones, which you can’t always do,” he stated.

“A hug, and hopefully we can turn this situation around as soon as possible.”
