Lionel Messi can break 3 La Liga records this season

Lionel Messi can break or equal records this season as La Liga continues this season.

Messi is arguably the greatest player of all time in La Liga as he has scored 438 goals and 183 assists in 474 games.

Having helped Barcelona to 10 La Liga tables there is no one other like him.

The Six time Ballon d’Or winner will be hoping to break these records as he helps Barcelona to their 11th title.

There are three La Liga records that Messi could either break or equal this season before the season ends on 19th July.

Most consecutive Pichichi trophies in a row

Lionel Messi has won the top scorer trophy three times a row winning the Pichichi trophy since 2016/17 and has scored a total of 126 goals in as many games.

An if Messi is able to finish as a top scorer this season then he will equal Hugo Sanchez’s record of four Pichichi trophies in a row.

Most penalty goals in La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo is the current holder of the record, having scored 61 penalties in his 9 year span in La Liga.

Messi is just five shy of Ronaldo’s tally as he has already scored 4 penalties this season.

Either way, Messi is bound to take this record before the day he finally hangs up his boots.

But if he’s not careful, the Argentine could instead equal Hugo Sanchez’s record for the most missed penalties in La Liga history on 15. He’s already missed 12 to date.

Record 7th La Liga Top Scorer Award

Messi already tied Telmo Zarra’s record of Six Top Scorer Awards and if he is able to finish the season as top scorer then he will move one ahead of Zarra.

Messi’s closest rival is Karim Benzema 4 goals behind him as Messi sits at the top with 21 goals.
