As the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season approaches its winter break, Paris Saint-Germain travels north to face Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
The hosts’ form has deteriorated in recent weeks, but they are still fifth in the table, three points behind second and 15 behind their next opponents.
Lens had a strong start to the season, scoring 18 points in the first nine games, but their consistency has slipped slightly since then.
Les Sang et Or have won just two of their past seven games, drawing the other two.
They bounced back from a loss to Montpellier with a 4-1 triumph over Metz and a loss to Lyon with a 4-0 thumping of Troyes.
Both games finished in a 2-2 draw, with Angers recovering after Lens turned the game around and Clermont equalising twice before holding on with ten men in Wednesday’s encounter.
After an own goal gave Franck Haise’s side the lead after 12 minutes, Seko Fofana restored their lead early in the second half after the first equaliser, but Bayo’s eighth goal of the season levelled things up once more, and Les Lanciers were able to survive the final six minutes after Diaby was sent off.
Despite recent setbacks, this has been an amazing season for a club that was only promoted to the top flight 18 months ago. They’re about to undergo one of their toughest tests yet.
PSG may have constructed a 12-point advantage at the top of the table, but they haven’t had it easy this season.
They’ve fought back from behind to win five times in the first 16 games of the season, and they’ve let up the first goal 11 times in 2021, which is their most in a calendar year since 2012. (also 11).
