Luis Suarez led the charge for Barcelona, with the Uruguayan scoring both the Catalan giant’s goals. But it was not enough to beat Celta Vigo and open up a lead on Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
Lionel Messi is still on 699 goals but was still at the heart of everything good by Quique Setien’s side. However, a draw is all they could muster up.
The Argentine took his assists tally to 250 as his free-kick found Suarez for goal number 1.
The score stayed at one-nil to Barca until five minutes after the second-half restart. Some no-existent marking by the visiting defenders cost them dearly.
Despite dominating possession, Barcelona struggled to take control. It was only their second shot on target in the 67th minute that saw the lead restored with another Suarez goal.
Celta Vigo was not about to give up. They poured forward and had plenty of opportunities. The hosts got their just rewards in the 88th minute.
Former Liverpool man Iago Aspas scored the equalizer. It was a free-kick won via a cheap foul on the edge of the box.
Celta could have won it in the closing seconds, but for the handy work of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
