It came as a shock for Gonzalo Higuain when new boss Andrea Pirlo deemed him surplus to his requirements at Juventus.
Pirlo, speaking in a press conference last month, said that he still admired Higuain but asserted that the 32-year old does not have a future at the Allianz stadium.
There had been no shortage of rumors linking forwards to Juve, but the number of rumors drastically increased since Pirlo’s statements.
FC Barcelona’s Luis Suarez has been heavily linked with a move to the club in recent weeks. Suarez faces a similar situation as that of Higuain as he has been told that he is no longer required at Barca by his new manager Ronald Koeman.
Suarez appeared to be on the verge of moving to Italy as reports suggested that he agreed to personal terms with Juve. He even applied for Italian citizenship so as to not take up an EU a slot in the squad.
The transfer was understood to be imminent as Juve were ready to complete the paperwork with Barca. However, there have been some issues between Suarez and his club over the settlement of the termination of his contract and the transfer is now off.
The Serie A champions were also linked with a move for AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko. Dzeko was initially considering the idea of joining Juve but he is now reluctant to quit Roma just a week before the start of the new season, as per reports.
As Sky Sports reports, Juve, as a result, have now turned their attention to signing Edinson Cavani.
Cavani already has an Italian passport, which is a plus point for Juve. Another plus point is that the veteran striker left Paris Saint-Germain this summer after his contract expired and is available for free.
