The French government recently prohibited sporting events to take place in the nation for at least the next four months effectively forcing the Ligue 1 season to come to an abrupt ending.
Earlier, this season’s Eredivisie also got abandoned. The Dutch government announced there will be no promotions or relegations, or even a champion, denying leaders Ajax the title.
Now, Liverpool’s dream of ending their 30-year-long league title drought looks to be in danger as Premier League also runs the risk of getting scrapped off.
However, there have been ongoing plans to resume English top-flight football with the aim of completing the remaining 92 matches.
And Jose Mourinho believes it will in the best of interest of all the teams if the plans can be set in motion.
“If we play the remaining nine matches this season it will be good for every one of us. It will be good for football, for the Premier League,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“If we play football behind closed doors, I’d like to think that football is never behind closed doors.
“With cameras, it means that millions and millions are watching. So if one day we walk into this empty stadium, it will not be empty, not at all.”
