Joan Laporta – Messi could still leave Barcelona

Serious questions have been raised in recent times over Lionel Messi’s future at FC Barcelona in light of his apparent bitter relationship with the club hierarchy.

Reports recently emerged claiming that Messi is hell-bent on putting an end to his 16-year Barcelona career. As per the reports, he has decided against renewing his contract and plans on leaving when his current one expires in 2021.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Quique Setien then both dismissed the rumors, with the former saying he was confident the Argentine will continue at Camp Nou beyond 2021.

Former president Joan Laporta, however, fears that the possibility of Messi leaving the club still prevails.

“I want him to stay in 2021,” Marca quotes Laporta. “But I am scared that a bad decision of this board could result in an irreversible decision.

“It’s not BarcaGate, it’s BartoGate. I am worried about how the status of the club is being put at risk.”
