Dutch manager Ronald Koeman had been one of the few names in cosideration when Barca replaced Ernesto Valverde.
He was part of their dream team in 90s and is considered a legend among fans. He has been linked with taking a managerial role at Camp Nou for some time.
Although he is tied to the Netherlands national team currently, the 56-year-old can see himself leading the charge at Camp Nou in the future.
“They called me and I said no because of the commitment I have with my national team,” Koeman said, according to Marca.
“I don’t think it was a bad time. What happened is that I have my motives with the Netherlands. If I’d have been out of a job then sure, everyone likes Barcelona.
“It doesn’t matter what situation they’re in. I had my best spell as a player there, at Barcelona, and I have lots of love for the city. So, let’s hope that I can coach Barcelona one day.
