“I didn’t expect this many challenges” – Arteta on Arsenal job

Following the dismissal of Unai Emery on the back of the team’s abysmal run of form, Arsenal appointed Mikel Arteta as their head coach back in December 2019.

Having guided the side to successive FA Cup glory during his playing days, Arteta was considered the most viable option to transform Arsenal.

The Gunners have shown signs of improvement with their former skipper at the helm. However, they are still far from the level from which they had gradually slipped since his retirement, a level at which he feels they belong

Inconsistent performers and injury woes have prevented him from making any significant impact at the Emirates so far.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the Spaniard says he is focused on working out ways to overcome difficulties in the most efficient manner.

“I am always very optimistic,” said Arteta, smiling.

“I didn’t expect this many challenges in the first six months here, but it’s part of our job. There are always a lot of unexpected things that arise.

“We just have to try to solve them in the best possible way, be positive and move forward.”
