Cristiano Ronaldo can be excused for “not playing an excellent game” against Inter Milan, insists Roberto Mancini.
Ronaldo has been Juventus’ savior several times this season but he was powerless in Sunday’s Serie A outing.
The forward put in a bleak display in the 2-0 away defeat, struggling to make any sort of impact in the match and remaining rather ineffective in the final third of the pitch.
CR7 would have taken his goal tally to 20 in as many appearances for this season and broken two records in the process had he found the net even once against Inter.
Much criticism has come his way for the lackluster display but Mancini, speaking as a guest in the ‘Domenica Sportiva’ on Rai, insists the critics need to cut Ronaldo some slack.
“He may have a bit of physical difficulty, like everyone else,” the Italy head coach said, via TUTTOmercatoWEB.com.
“He is a player who always scores goals, he has got us used to it very well and the times he does not play an excellent game he goes to nitpick. It happens to everyone, it is not a robot, even if it comes close to being one.”
