Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello says having Cristiano Ronaldo in the team assured that the opponents needed at least two goals to win the match.
Ronaldo spent the finest moments of his career at the Spanish capital while also topping the club’s goalscoring charts with a remarkable record of 450 goals in 438 games.
And Capello believes the club’s dip in form is due to the lack of planning in replacing Ronaldo.
“As a television commentator I would always say that if you want to beat Madrid, you have to score at least two goals because you knew that Cristiano would be sure to get one,” Capello told AS.
“It is necessary to make changes, but with care. You have to sign players who make a difference. Because when you wear the Madrid or Barca shirt it can weigh heavily on your shoulders.
“If you don’t have lots of quality, you can’t do it, you get lost.”
