Joachim Low’s side had a decent start against Switzerland, looking more comfortable in possession than their opponents. It didn’t take long either to take control as Gundogan broke the deadlock in the 14th-minute.
But Germany faded in the second-half, opening the door for a Swiss comeback in the form of Silvan Widmer. The FC Basel full-back scored an excellent equalizer just before the hour-mark to settle the tie on a 1-1 draw.
“I’m a little pissed off. We lost balls unnecessarily. It’s very annoying and I’m a little pissed off,” Gundogan told ZDF.
“It was completely up to us. We were in a good starting position, leading 1-0. Then we gave away a bad pass, run into a counter-attack, and then it’s 1-1.”
The German midfielder added: “This is not a process, this is a very simple football game.
If you have the ball up front, you have to keep it up there. Then you have to fight the last 10, 20 minutes and you are lucky to get out with a point.
“I’m dissatisfied, honestly. We should have played through the second half as ice cold. So we’re giving away two points.”
Kroos talking about axed older players from Germany squad said the coach will not look backwards.
Speaking to goal the German said, “Thomas played a great season, but for the national coach, it’s not just about the shape of today,” “[It’s] about [how he shapes] the project for the next few years.
“He wants to give space to players like Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kai Havertz. That’s why my feelings tell me that he will not look backwards for his selections.”
Chelsea made Havertz their second most expensive signing of all time. Kroos hailed his compatriot’s abilities and tipped him for success at the Stamford Bridge.
“Kai is of great quality,” the Real Madrid midfielder was added. “If he continues like this, he will be difficult to stop as a player.”
