Manchester United were coming into the FA Cup clash, having scored ten and not conceded a goal in the competition so far.
Playing the bottom of the Premier League side Norwich, United were the clear favorites.
But with games following the lockdown coming thick and fast, Ole Gunner Solskjaer made eight changes to the side that thrashed Sheffield United.
There was little in terms of chances, and the first shot on target did not come until the opening goal in the 51st minute.
It was on-loan striker Odion Ighalo who scored for the Red Devils. His acrobatic if not unspectacular effort meant he has now scored in every game he has started for the club.
Conceding seemed to help the home side, as they were forced to come out and challenge United. It was the Canaries first shot on target in the 75th minute that brought the equalizer.
It was a screamer from Cantwell that had Maguire failing to block and Romero in goal well beaten.
The game rolled on into extra time and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went for it. He had already brought on Rashford and Greenwood, he added martial to the mix.
It meant United had four out and out strikers plus Pogba and Fernandes in the midfield pulling the strings.
They still appeared labored even though they pressed for a winner.
Norwich was resilient but were eventually undone by a goal from Harry Maguire just two minutes from a penalty shootout.
With the win Manchester United move on to the semifinals of the FA Cup.
