Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo will be gunning for more records in the competition he has made his own.
It’s less than two weeks before another edition of the Champions League is underway once again.
CR7 is the highest scorer in the Champions League with 130 goals from 170 appearances. He has an impressive 47 assists to go with. Looking at those numbers, it’s easy to see why no one would want to come up against him in the competition.
Last season, Lyon sent Juventus packing early from the Champions League as early as the round of 16. That is enough reason for the Bianconeri outfit to be fired up even more.
Even better, we will get a Ronaldo vs Messi battle as Barcelona were paired in the same group with Juventus. Completing the group is Dynamo Kyiv and Hungarian side Ferencvaros,
Juve will play Dynamo Kyiv first and their manager, Mircea Lucescu, is already worried about the threat of CR7.
He even made comparisons of Ronaldo and legendary Maradona. Regardless, he is hopeful his side can keep a star-studded Juventus side quiet.
“The players go on the pitch, not the coaches, that’s why I see no favourites.” Lucescu told Tuttosport.
“He (Ronaldo) is like Maradona, he gives his imprint in the teams where he plays. Facing CR7 is always worrying because he loves scoring and has a unique determination. We’ll try to limit him as a team. Trouble is, Juventus also have other players like [Paulo] Dybala, [Alvaro] Morata, Dejan [Kulusevski] and [Federico] Chiesa.”
