With his brace against France on Wednesday, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo joined former Iran superstar Ali Daei at the top of the list of the most goalscorers in international football history.
In their final Euro 2020 group game, the Juventus star scored two penalties to help his team to a 2-2 draw against Didider Deshcamp’s France. Ronaldo’s brace against the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners brings his tally for Portugal to 109 goals in 176 appearances.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently tied for the most goals with Ali Daei of Iran, who scored 109 goals in only 149 games during his thirteen-year international career.
With his brace against Hungary in Portugal’s Euro 2020 opener, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner became the first player to score in five different European Championships.
He also became the top goal scorer in the history of the European Championships after his goals against Hungary. Cristiano Ronaldo has 14 goals in the European Championships after scoring against Germany and a brace against France.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also the leading goal scorer at Euro 2020, having scored five goals in just three games. Many fans and pundits thought the 36-year-old was past his prime and wouldn’t be able to have the same impact on his national team as he had in previous international tournaments.
