Benzema talks about his time with Cristiano at Real Madrid

Karim Benzema spoke about playing with Cristiano Ronaldo and how he molded his game at Real Madrid.

Of all the players Cristiano Ronaldo has shared the pitch with, Karim Benzema is one of the few CR7 shared a special relationship with.

The Frenchman’s relationship with the Portuguese forward was a key part of a successful era for Real Madrid. The highlight of this was Los Blancos winning three straight Champions League trophies between 2016 and 2018.

But it came at a price for Benzema. Playing alongside a player like Ronaldo means the Portuguese will always steal the limelight.

And Benzema admits he had to change his style of play for his partnership with CR7 to blossom on the pitch.

“Over the years I have changed my game, because Cristiano was there to score goals,” Benzema told the Universo Valdano program.

“At Lyon I was going to score goals all the time, but now I touch the ball a lot more first.”

“Because of course, I had a boy next to me who scored like triple the amount of goals I scored, so I had to adapt.”

Since Ronaldo left Real Madrid, Benzema has shouldered the goal-scoring burden for Los Blancos to a great extent. He scored 30 goals in total in the 2018/19 season before hitting 27 times last term.
