Barcelona star Lionel Messi has suffered a right quadriceps injury

Speculations concerning the possibility of him missing the return of La Liga started to surface when it was recently brought into light that Lionel Messi has been sitting out FC Barcelona’s training sessions.

The Argentine did not join the rest of the squad for training since Barcelona resumed group training on Tuesday. It was reported that he did, however, performed fitness routines individually.

The club conceded that Messi is indeed carrying a discomfort in his thigh muscles, but the injury is not serious enough to keep him out of the clash against Mallorca on June 13.

A statement on the official club website read: “Quique Setien and his team were back out on the training ground this Friday after taking the previous day off.

“Barca captain Leo Messi has a minor right quadriceps injury and trained in isolation, doing specific exercises to avoid unnecessary risks with just eight days remaining before Barca finally get back to playing matches. He should be able to rejoin his team-mates in a few days’ time.”

Lionel Messi has been in scintillating form having scored 24 goals and assisted further 16 in 31 games for Barcelona in all competitions.
