French forward Wissam Ben Yedder was signed by Monaco for 40 million euros in 2019 and according to him he could have been at another club is things progressed differently.
Speaking to Onze Mondial he insists Barcelona have had an interest in him for some time.
He said:
“For starters, these are things that could have happened long before.”
“Last summer, for example. Barcelona took information about me several times.”
Interest though was apparently all it was and he moved to France. There he has had a sensational start to his career in Ligue 1.
However, that was not the only time. Barcelona was in the market for a replacement striker given Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele’s injuries.
Given his fine form, he claims the move was on the agenda once again.
He added:
“This winter, it could have been done.”
“It didn’t happen, that’s how it was, that it shouldn’t be done.”
Ben Yedder is not concerned though and takes the interest as a form of compliment.
He concluded:
“It shows that I am doing a good job.”
“I stayed professional and focused on my performances with Monaco. When Barca arrived, I took it as a plus, as a bonus.”
