Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Supercopa on Wednesday. The Catalans are not the favourites to win the match, but a recent personnel change has given them a huge boost in the team.
Barcelona confirmed the return of Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Ferran Torres on Tuesday.
Following a £55 million transfer from Manchester City, Torres could make his debut for the Blaugrana. After Samuel Umtiti’s contract was extended with reduced wages, the club officially registered him in their squad.
Despite the return of a number of players, Barcelona still has a number of first-team players on the bench. Eric Garcia, who suffered a hamstring injury versus Granada, is the most recent addition to the club’s injury list. The Spaniard is expected to be out for five weeks, making Araujo’s return all the more important.
Barcelona is winless in their last five El Clasicos, most recently losing 2-1 to Real Madrid. On Wednesday, Xavi will manage his first El Clasico as a manager, as he attempts to defeat an in-form Blancos.
