Bukayo Saka is out of contract next year and Arsenal are eager to tie down one of their prized assets.
The coronavirus pandemic forced Arsenal to shelve contract talks with their players, as the first team recently agreed to a 12.5% pay-cut to help the club ease financial strains.
The Athletic claim Saka was on the verge of agreeing on a new deal before football was suspended and Arsenal are now on track to secure the 18-year-old’s signature.
Saka has attracted interest from a host of rival clubs including Manchester United and Premier League leaders Liverpool.
However, the teenager’s preference is to extend his deal with Arsenal.
The news will be a boost for Mikel Arteta, who is a massive fan of the Englishman and will surely call on the youngster in the closing stages of the season.
Saka has featured 18 times in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals, and has been a revelation for the Gunners at the left-back spot.
