Sergio Aguero has been in a race against time to recover from a knee injury for Manchester City’s second leg against Real Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League on August 7.
The club’s record goalscorer has been out of action since June, but had returned to gym work recently.
Pep Guardiola then implied Aguero would be available for selection last week by saying: “I think against Madrid everyone will be fit apart from (Benjamin) Mendy, who is suspended.”
After City’s 5-0 thrashing of Norwich in their final Premier League game on Sunday, however, Guardiola has done a U-turn regarding Aguero’s availability.
Quizzed on whether ‘Kun’ will make the team, the City boss told reporters (via the club’s website): “No, I think it will not be possible for the timing.”
Aguero has scored 23 goals in 32 games in all competitions.
