NewJeans members take legal action against HYBE for leaked trainee videos. Min Hee-Jin’s side responds to reports about NewJeans and HYBE.
On July 23, Newsen was told by Min Hee-Jin’s side that the information is not true and they are planning to take legal action.
Dispatch reported that Source Music has been getting ready to debut a new girl group called ‘N Team’ since 2018, with a target debut in the third quarter of 2021.
The five members of NewJeans, who were trainees at Source Music, were reportedly transferred to HYBE’s new label Ador after Min Hee-Jin demanded expanded authority and acted on advice from a shaman.
Ador mentioned that they intend to pursue legal action against HYBE for manipulating personal messages in the report.
Ador also shared that NewJeans members and their parents are currently protesting the unauthorized release of trainee videos and personal portraits by HYBE.
The report contained captures of private conversations involving Min Hee-Jin and videos of NewJeans members during their trainee period.
Source Music filed a lawsuit on July 15 against Ador’s Min Hee-Jin for interfering with their business and defaming their reputation.
Min Hee-Jin discussed her strained relationship with HYBE Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk and CEO Park Ji-Won at a press conference on April 25.
HYBE initially planned to debut NewJeans as their first girl group, but CEO Park Ji-Won changed course and debuted Le Sserafim first.
Source Music released an official statement on April 26, expressing regret over the situation.
“We strongly request that such incidents do not recur in the future, as mentioning other artists’ real names disrespectfully in public with false information and rude expressions is unacceptable.”
The company strongly emphasized the importance of avoiding disrespectful behavior towards other artists.
Source Music highlighted the negative impact of spreading false information and forming public opinion based on inaccurate claims.
“This has led to numerous malicious posts and indiscriminate speculations based on unilateral claims that are not factually accurate,” and added, “The false claim that Le Sserafim harmed other artists and the act of forming public opinion with false information as if it were true is a clear dissemination of false facts.”
NewJeans debut was delayed due to contract transfer process from Source Music to Ador.
R&R disputes between Source Music and Min Hee-Jin led to Le Sserafim debuting first.
Minimal promotion period was decided due to closely followed debut timings of both teams.
“The debut schedule of NewJeans was delayed due to R&R disputes between Source Music and Min Hee-Jin, which resulted in Le Sserafim debuting first. As the debut timings of both teams followed closely, there wasn’t enough time to promote each adequately, so we decided to set a minimal promotion period.”
HYBE filed a lawsuit against Min Hee-jin for breach of duty on April 25.
Min Hee-Jin held an urgent press conference on the same day, denying the allegations.
She underwent her first round of questioning at Yongsan Police Station on July 9 for about 8 hours and 25 minutes.
