Diego Simeone expects Joao Felix to continue his upward trend and increase his goal contribution.
As one of Diego Simeone’s best players, Joao Felix started the season in great form with stellar performances. The Colchoneros weren’t able to get past a goalless draw against Huesca but they won 6-1 against Granada during the opening match.
That game was more than enough for ‘Cholo’ Simeone to make deductions about the young player.
The key to Atletico Madrid’s future this season, will mostly go through what Joao Felix can do throughout the season. After the result against Huesca, criticism came falling down on Simeone for his tactical approach while having Joao Felix playing his best football.
It’s clearly a problem of refusing to give up on his defensive style for results. But ‘Cholo’ still doesn’t seem to realize that his decisions are hurting Joao’s progression.
Ahead of the third match of the season in La Liga, journalists pressed Simeone about the young player.
“Throughout last season, the pre-season gave us a good idea of the help he can give us with his goal control,” said Simeone on Atletico’s official website.
“Today he confirms the same feeling. Until he picked up the injury, he had a great start and we hope he can maintain himself like this. We expect him to keep growing with the squad so we can keep creating chances. We need to take advantage of a footballer in which there’s a lot of hope deposited from all of us.”
